Entry Acceptance Rules

KC Bier Company and Crane Brewing Professional Ramp Ups

Each will ramp up one entry from the 2018 competition "Scale Up Categories". Brewers will enter their beers into specific categories for either or both breweries. 2 bottles are required. Scale up judging will be done in two rounds, similar to GABF judging. The first round will be performed by KCBM Competition Judges, simply to rule out any offensive or out of style beers. Beers that pass the first round will go directly to the brewery representatives for direct selection.

Entrants must be willing to travel to Kansas City for their brew day in the event they win.

KC Bier Co will be choosing one German Ale/Lager to scale up (Excluding Sours such as Gose, Berliner Weisse, etc).

Crane Brewing is also choosing to scale up a German Ale/Lager, however they are accepting Sours into their category.

Normal Entry Acceptance Rules

Each entry will consist of 12 ounce capped bottles or corked bottles that are void of all identifying information, including labels and embossing. Printed caps are allowed, but must be blacked out completely.

Entries will consist of 2 bottles. Entries with a single bottle will not be eligible for Best of Show.

12oz brown glass bottles are preferred; however, green and clear glass will be accepted. Swing top bottles will likewise be accepted as well as corked bottles.

Bottles will not be returned to contest entrants.

Completed entry forms must be submitted with all entries, and can be printed directly from this website. Entry forms should be attached to bottles with a rubber band only; glue and/or tape are unacceptable.

Please fill out the entry forms completely. Be meticulous about noting any special ingredients that must be specified. Failure to note such ingredients may impact the judges' scoring of your entry.

Brewers are not limited to one entry in each category and may each subcategory more than once, provided the beers/meads/ciders are not the same beer/mead/cider.

Packing and Shipping

Carefully pack your entries in a sturdy box. Line the inside of your carton with a plastic trash bag. Partition and pack each bottle with adequate packaging material. Please do not over pack!

Write clearly: Fragile. This Side Up. on the package. Please only use bubble wrap as your packing material.

Enclose each of your bottle labels in a small zip-top bag before attaching to their respective bottles. This way it makes it possible for the organizer to identify specifically which entry has broken if there is damage during shipment.

Every reasonable effort will be made to contact entrants whose bottles have broken to make arrangements for sending replacement bottles.

If you live in the United States, please note that it is illegal to ship your entries via the United States Postal Service (USPS). Private shipping companies have the right to refuse your shipment if they are informed that the package contains glass and/or alcoholic beverages. Be aware that entries mailed internationally are often required by customs to have proper documentation. These entries might be opened and/or returned to the shipper by customs officials at their discretion. It is solely your responsibility to follow all applicable laws and regulations.

  • Bronze: 1pt

Ties in the Burgermeister Award will be decided in the following manner: most golds, most silvers, most bronzes. If all is still tied after all of that - we will go to feats of strength.

Places will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each category/table.

The 1st place entry in each category will advance to the Best of Show (BOS) round with a single, overall Best of Show beer selected.

Additional prizes may be awarded to those winners present at the awards ceremony at the discretion of the competition organizers.

Both score sheets and awards will be available for pick up that night after the ceremony concludes. Awards and score sheets not picked up will be mailed back to participants. Results will be posted to the competition web site after the ceremony concludes.
